New unemployment numbers are out, and they don’t look good. Our Bay County unemployment rate has risen to 9.9%. It’s not unusual for our unemployment rate to rise in the winter, but it’s still a bit depressing.
The unemployed can’t buy houses.
Another bit of bad news surfaced this week with the closure of Redpine Healthcare. I had been quite excited when Redpine came here, promising lots of good-paying jobs. Sadly, it was not to be.
People will buy houses as the economy recovers.
There are some indications that the market it turning. CNN/Money recently forecast that Panama City house sales would increase in 2013, and several leading economists are predicting an upswing in house sales in 2012.
